
Speech Therapy
The Speech Therapy Department provides services to improve: communication and swallowing
problems in order to maximize abilities in these areas. We treat these problems associated
with:
» Pediatric Language and Articulation
» Neurological Disorders (i.e. Parkinson's, MS, ALS, Myasthenia
Gravis)
» Voice Disorders (i.e. Nodules, Polyps, Laryngectomy)
» Stuttering
» Aphasia, Dysarthria
» Swallowing Disorders associated with stroke
» Modified Barium Swallow Studies
Referral Signs & Symptoms:
» Unclear speech that is hard to understand
» Language skills not up to child's age level
» Repetition of words & syllables (stuttering)
» Difficulty comprehending spoken word
» Slurred speech
» Word finding difficulty
» Chronic hoarse voice
» Post vocal nodule surgery
» Post laryngectomy surgery
» Difficulty eating
*coughing/choking
*wet gurgling voice after eating
*pocketing food in the mouth
*aspiration symptoms
*temperature spikes after meals
*complaint of food sticking in the throat
Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday 8:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Location:
The department is located in Newton Memorial Hospital just inside the Rehabilitation entrance.
